I recently attended one of Mahi’s workshops to up skill myself in Te reo Matatini and look at kemu that could support my tauira further. I found the workshop very engaging and informative. Mahi has a wealth of knowledge and passion for hanganga reo matatini and a tonne of rauemi to make Akoranga fun and engaging. In the past two years since using hanganga reo matatini approach I have seen immense growth in my tauira’s ability to decode and encode Kupu. Seeing their enthusiasm to engage in activities speaks volumes about this programme, I would highly recommend attending a workshop
I have thoroughly enjoyed my learning journey with Mahina. I believe that the scope and sequence that Mahi by Mahi provides, and teaching through a Hanganga Reo Matatini approach is what kura and kaiako needed to support and guide them. Previously there was no other aromatawai to identify where tamariki were at and their next steps. As an RTLB working alongside kaiako, this allows us to collect accurate data to inform teaching and make achievable goals for tamariki.
Mahina has been an excellent tutor for my son Tiuka. As a whānau that has limited connections to Kohanga Reo and Kura kaupapa Māori, Mahi has filled the gap for us in terms of having our son learn to read and write in Te Reo. Her tutoring sessions have been beneficial to not only our son but our whānau as a whole.
Tiuka comes home excited to share what he has learned with Mahi, and he prepares himself for the following week by organising his arapū kari and pukapuka pānui on his drawer so that he can practice each night.
Tiuka is a determined child, but he is also passionate about Te Ao Māori, and watching him speak and read in Te Reo with excitement, confirms that our decision to put him into this tutoring roopu has been the greatest and most rewarding decision we have made as parents.
Mahi provides a space where our child feels safe to be himself, accepted for who he is, and challenged to be a greater version of himself.
Whaea Mahi is such a kind, engaging kaiako that is able to adapt her approach for all learners, even those with learning challenges.
We have seen a huge change in our tama since starting tutoring with Mahi by Mahi. Not only has his ability and knowledge increased, but so has his enjoyment and willingness to participate. He now challenges us all with hanga kupu competitions at home !
Ngā mihi mutunga kore ki a koe Mahi
I attended Mahi’s workshop on hanganga reo matatini, he tino rawe tēnei!!! She is an engaging speaker, her information is up-to-date and she generously shares her ideas for resources, so you can quickly get started with implementing this kaupapa. She has done a huge amount of work ‘behind the scenes’ to take best-practise knowledge and develop it so it can be used in kura kaupapa reo Māori and reo rua classrooms. Tēnā koe Mahi for this opportunity.
